Daytime Summer Makeup Look
It's been forever since my last FOTD. I decided to share my pretty standard everyday summer day face. Its not revolutionary but its something that's quite simple and easy to replicate. The products I've used are perfect for the summer time. Let's get started.

After prepping with serum and sunscreen (see my current skincare saviours HERE), I apply NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser in Medium 1 St Moritz. Its a moisturising base with an astounding flash-safe SPF30. I then pat on MAC Mineralised Skinfinish Natural in the shade Medium Plus all over. Baking follows with a hefty dose of Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder underneath the eyes, on my forehead and nose. I let this sit while I apply the rest of my makeup.

I apply a peachy blush with gold duochrome like MAC Petal Power Mineralize Blush on the apples of my cheeks. I dust MAC Studio Sculpt Defining Bronzing Powder in the shade Golden Rinse on the hollows of my cheeks, temples, forehead and jawline to add a bronzy glow and contour at the same time. I follow with NARS Albatross Blush on the high planes of my cheeks and the bridge of my nose. My eye makeup is simple with my favourite warm-tinted nude MAC Texture Eyeshadow on the crease and MAC Engraved Powerpoint Eye Pencil. I fill in my eyebrows with Blink Brow Bar Jasmine Mogra Brow Pencil.

Now I dust off the baked powder and apply mascara. My current favourite is MAC In Extreme Dimension 3D Mascara. I add on a lippie, in this case Maybelline Touch of Spice Matte Lipstick, a matte lipstick with a creamy feel on the lips.

I love the beautiful subtle glow these products achieve and I thought you might like that too. Now off to enjoy the sunshine...

Daytime Summer Makeup Look

Maybelline Tantalizing Taupe, Touch of Spice, Daringly Nude Lipsticks Review Swatches
Maybelline Tantalizing Taupe, Touch of Spice, Daringly Nude Lipsticks

Call me a makeup snob but it takes superb quality for a drugstore product to remain in my cupboard. American brand Maybelline does excellent mascaras, and it seems lippies too. I picked up these three Maybelline lipsticks in the USA a while back and they have remained in my makeup stash to use and reuse. And yes, they're THAT special. Let's get started!

Maybelline Daringly Nude Lipstick. This is a creamy opaque peachy nude in a satin matte finish. This goes opaque in 1-2 swipes without looking garish on my NC25-30 warm complexion. It's a beautiful colour for everyday use and would match a smokey eye very well.

Maybelline Tantalizing Taupe Lipstick. This is not quite taupe but rather it is a creamy pinky nude with a slightly pearlescent finish, similar to MAC Cremesheen lipsticks. It reminds me of MAC Plink! lipstick which is one of my favourites.

Maybelline Touch of Spice Lipstick. This is a beautiful rose colour in a creamy matte finish. Its a gorgeous everyday shade that is work-safe too. It is non-drying but a good balm always helps.

Revlon Seduction Ultra HD Matte Lip Color Review Swatches
Revlon Seduction Ultra HD Matte Lip Color Review Swatches

Revlon has finally made its contribution to the matte liquid lipstick trend. Swatching these Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Colors at Boots, I was drawn to Seduction, a matte peachy nude. It looks so beautiful in its sleek slick packaging. I just had to have it!

Revlon Seduction Ultra HD Matte Lip Color Review Swatches

The formula reminds me of the NYX Matte Lip Creams (check out a recent haul HERE) in that these are nondrying and feel velvety on the lips. There's a short-lived minty tingly sensation on application but otherwise it is tasteless and odourless *thumbs up!*. The doe foot applicator provides the perfect amount of product and avoids wastage.

The shade itself is b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l. A nude peachy pink that does not wash me out. Its a very flattering shade that is easy to wear day or night, and I'm sure it also would look good on a variety of skintones. More pigmented lips could do with a matching lip pencil underneath.

I've compared it to some of my favourite nudes. It is similar to Charlotte Tilbury Bitch Perfect Lipstick, and it is considerably more peachy than MAC Fanfare Lipstick and MAC Cosmo Lipstick.

Overall I am very impressed by this offering from Revlon. It is available in Boots and Superdrug. Have you tried the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Colors?

Caolin Perfect Pores Kit Review Peach and Lily Review
Caolion Perfect Pores Kit Review
No one does beauty better than Koreans, whether its skincare or plastic surgery. Skincare is a major Korean export product and its admirable how the government dedicates resources into the research of new products and funding the Korean beauty industry.

The Caolion Perfect Pores Kit from the popular Korean beauty e-shop Peach & Lily is a perfect introductory kit to Korean skincare. This is a set of 4 fun "pore-minimising" skincare products.

Now, just to put it out there, pore size is genetically determined and there is no topical product that can shrink them. However we CAN tackle the "appearance" of pores using skincare products that leave temporary effects. Let's get started on our new skincare set!

Caolion Freshly Chitosan Foam Cleanser Peach & Lily Review
Caolion Freshly Chitosan Foam Cleanser Review
Caolion Freshly Chitosan Foam Cleanser. The routine starts with this cleanser. It's a smooth peach-tinted cleanser. It only takes a pea-sized amount to cleanse the entire face. It does not have any pesky smells which is a good thing. Compared to my favourite La Roche Posay Cleansing Gel, it foams and I find this to be a lot more drying. It leaves that super squeaky clean feel on the skin but also on the fingers, which I'm not particularly a fan of. It does not seem to remove makeup especially eye makeup well so I would use a micellar water cleanser beforehand. Following patting my face dry, I rush to the next step as that squeaky sensation does get quite uncomfortable.

Caolion Premium O2 Bubble Pore Pack Peach & Lily Review
Caolion Premium O2 Bubble Pore Pack Review
Caolion Premium O2 Bubble Pore Pack comes next, which is an easy favourite from the set. It is a lightweight grey mousse with little bits of exfoliator. Massage it on dry or damp skin for a couple of minutes and it bubbles up on its own. Very cool! Leave to rest for two minutes and then wash off. It leaves my skin super soft. I've never had a skincare product like this and I love it!

Caolion Premium Original Pore Pack Review Peach & Lily
Caolion Premium Original Pore Pack Review
Caolion Premium O2 Bubble Pore Pack is a soothing cooling clay masque. I would apply this on particularly oily areas ie. the T-zone to tighten the appearance of pores. In terms of its minty soothing nature, I find it similar to Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque with a main difference that it doesn't harden as it dries and thus makes it easier to remove. It washes off easily with warm water, and even better yet with a washcloth. My skin feels super soft, smooth, significantly more radiant. Any pus-filled blemishes shrink away.

Caolion Pore Tightening Memory Sleeping Mask Review Peach & Lily
Caolion Pore Tightening Memory Sleeping Mask Review Peach & Lily
Caolion Pore Tightening Memory Sleeping Mask is a watery jelly-like product that's meant to be kept on the skin overnight as a sleeping mask. Apply a thin layer on clean skin and wash off in the morning. I feel it tightens up the skin when worn, but gets comfortable with time. In these summer months I don't need to add a moisturiser overnight but maybe in the winter time I may need to. My skin feels super soft in the morning. Another gem from this set!

Caolion Pore Tightening Memory Sleeping Mask Review Peach & Lily

This Caolin Perfect Pores Set can be purchased from Peach & Lily for just $84. It's hard to pick a favourite from this set. I think all are winners, well except for that cleanser. Overall its a good skincare set, that's quite a steal. Giant pores - watch out...

L'Oreal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Clay Review
L'Oreal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Clay Review
"It's green."

Were the first thoughts that came to mind. An unnatural shade for any skincare/hair care product and yet this was meant to be applied on the scalp.

But as a greasy-roots type of gal with sebum production paralleling life's stresses eg. worse with on calls at work and less so if I'm off on the weekends, the promise of oil-reducing hair clay instantly grabbed my attention.

L'Oreal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Clay Masque Pre Shampoo Treatment. This stuff is interesting. The texture of this masque is quite unique. It's a lot more bouncy and not as thick as I had imagined. It has an easily work-able texture that doesn't cling on to strands. I find myself thinking "I could get used to this". And perhaps branch out to trying other hair treatment products.

I apply a blob half the size of my palm and smooth on damp hair. Using scalp massaging strokes, it feels like a treat. After gently massaging, I wait about 5 minutes then rinse out, followed by the shampoo.

This works excellently at stripping out flakes and oils from the hair; and it also works well to prevent build up of sebum on the scalp. It's a wonderful product!

L'Oreal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Clay Re-Balancing Shampoo. This blue tinted shampoo, like the clay masque, has a somewhat bouncy lightweight texture. After a rinse, it leaves my hair semi-squeaky clean. Not super clean to completely strip out the oils, but it does feel a lil squeaky. Compared to the pre-shampoo treatment, somehow this isn't as oil controlling, and adds weight to the strands. I wouldn't recommend it.

Now if you're wondering about the conditioner, it wasn't on my radar. I hardly use conditioner as I find they apply too much weight on the hair and most leave quite a bit of residue. Perhaps once my current tube of Moroccan Oil conditioner runs out, I might purchase the Extraordinary Clay variant.

And the effect?
L'Oreal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Clay Review
L'Oreal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Clay Review
Overall out of the two, I would recommend the L'Oreal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Clay Masque Pre Shampoo Treatment as it does seem to do the trick. I wouldn't recommend L'Oreal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Clay Re-Balancing Shampoo at all for greasy roots. The search is still on for the perfect dandruff defying shampoo. I'm up for any recommendations. Care to share?

La Roche-Posay Pigmentclar Serum Review
La Roche-Posay Pigmentclar Serum Review
Does your skin resemble a spotty Dalmatian? If you're looking for a gentle pigment-evening serum, La Roche-Posay Pigmentclar Serum may be up your alley.

It's active ingredient niacinamide (a B vitamin) has been shown by research to reduce excess pigment production, while lessening and potentially clearing dark spots. With dimethicone and water, this helps to calm down upset skin. Unfortunately it does contain alcohol denat, so it may not be suitable as a single agent for dry sensitive skin. (Check out my post on Alcohol in Skincare Products)

I've been using this serum for sometime now. The packaging is perfect. Slim and practical. The well designed pump makes it easy to gauge how much product you want to take at a time. With 1-2 pumps, I massage it on freshly cleansed semi-damp skin. I find it absorbs very well, within 3 minutes in fact, without a sticky residue. It has a pleasant faint fragrance, but it can potentially irritate sensitive skin.

Being a serum, it is not a moisturiser and would require a separate moisturiser or oil on top. It also contains alcohol which makes it a tad drying. I usually apply moisturiser 30seconds to 1 minute following serum; my current choice is La Roche-Posay Toleriane Ultra Overnight Moisturiser.

As for its skin evening properties, its perhaps difficult to tell in person, but my skin definitely feels smoother and brighter. To sustain any brightening effects from using this product, make sure you use a sunblock with SPF30 or greater during the day time.

La Roche-Posay Pigmentclar Serum Review
La Roche-Posay Pigmentclar Serum Review
Overall, I would recommend La Roche-Posay Pigmentclar Serum for its brightening properties and the soft radiant glow it imparts. Dry skin textures should perhaps avoid or ensure you use a heavy duty moisturiser in conjunction with this product. If you have oily or combination skin, this may be one to try!

Skincare from Clinique, L'oreal, Bioderma, La Roche-Posay Review
Skincare from Clinique, L'oreal, Bioderma, La Roche-Posay
I'm always blogging about new things but sometimes its the "every-day-products" type of posts that are the most useful. I've had several comments on my skin and questions IRL about the skincare I use, and here's where I spill the beans. In this post, I'd like to share with you what my skin has been loving lately for skin-protecting and blemish-minimising effects over the last few months, and I hope they would work for you too!

Skincare from Clinique, L'oreal, Bioderma, La Roche-Posay Review
Skincare from Clinique, L'oreal, Bioderma, La Roche-Posay
The day begins with a splash of cold water and gentle cleansing with La Roche-Posay Physiological Cleansing Milk. This good girl doesn't lather up nor suck out moisture from sensitive facial skin. After patting my face dry, I apply my day serum Clinique Smart Custom Serum to improve my skin's texture. This is followed by my sunscreen love LOrĂ©al Revitalift Laser Renew Day Cream SPF25 which applies like a dream and is easily and quickly soaked up by the skin. I then apply my makeup as usual.

Skincare from Clinique, L'oreal, Bioderma, La Roche-Posay Review
Skincare from Clinique, L'oreal, Bioderma, La Roche-Posay
Come evening when its time to remove makeup and prep for bed, I use a micellar water cleanser Bioderma Sensibio H2O on a cotton pad and gently remove my makeup. I do two full swipes of this to ensure my makeup is removed. I may also double-cleanse with La Roche-Posay Physiological Cleansing Milk if I'm not feeling lazy. Every other day I apply L'Oreal Paris Revitalift Laser Renew Peeling Lotion after cleansing to gently exfoliate the skin.

When it comes to skincare, I believe a good night cream or serum is one of the most important products to nurture and heal your skin overnight to prepare for the following day. I have been loving La Roche-Posay Pigmentclar Serum as it absorbs so well on the skin. Moisturiser follows as I use La Roche Posay Posay Toleriane Ultra Overnight. I wake up with blemish-free well hydrated skin.

Use the pattern " Cleanser - Serum - Moisturiser " twice a day and you can do no wrong!

I know it may seem like a lot of products, but using the pattern "cleanser-serum-moisturiser" along with chemical exfoliation +/- La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo to target spots, has significantly improved the quality of my skin. My skin has survived suboptimal conditions and work-related sleep deprivation. You don't have to use the exact products I have here, but this basic regime really makes a difference. Try it!

Skin Saviours - The May Edit

L'Occitane Almond Supple Skin Oil Review
L'Occitane Almond Supple Skin Oil Review

I remember perusing the L'Occitane shop in the Lake District a few months ago. I still recall the early beginnings of the flood at Windermere and little did I know it would be such a disaster. But during that particularly rainy day hubby and I did a little shopping instead of a walking trek, and as usual we were lured into L'Occitane. As much as I don't like to admit it, I am one of those who tends to be intimidated by beauty sales personnel. I tend to do my research first before entering a shop so I have review-based facts and have a pre-planned direct approach to a shop.

However, at this L'Occitane branch I was feeling spontaneous, the shop lady was especially nice. So nice in fact I felt comfortable. I asked her what her favourite product was from the shop. She had trouble deciding which one, but one stood out from her descriptions and it was L'Occitane Almond Supple Skin Oil.

L'Occitane Almond Supple Skin Oil is a delicously scented body oil. It applies from a spritzer applicator that diffuses the oil. I take 2 spritzes per leg and 1 spritz an arm. It applies great on the skin and takes around 5 minutes to soak up. It leaves you with that J.Lo glow.

It's a light oil, not quite as thick as my winter favourite Vaseline Intensive Care Cocoa Radiant Body Gel Oil. In terms of application and the spritzer, the feel is quite similar to NUXE Huile Prodigieuse Multi Usage Dry Oil.

I love applying this after a shower when the skin is just patted dry. It's quite luxurious, relaxing, and perfect for 'me time' days. The scent is quite powerful though and dear hubby has somehow grown a dislike for the scent (and I just can't see why; It really is delicious).

One bottle lasts ages - I've had mine for a good 6 months, though I do pick and choose which dates I want it though. I would suspect if used everyday, it will perhaps last 3-6 months, of course depending on how much product you use in each go.

If you love sweet almond scents and are looking for a moisturiser for the summer, I would recommend L'Occitane Almond Supple Skin Oil. It has kept a constant spot on my dressing table, to apply on a whim. It's that good.

Invogue Brush Works Powder Brush and Eye Duo Brush Review
Invogue Brush Works Powder Brush and Eye Duo Brush

I love a good synthetic brush. If well-crafted, they are ultrasoft, nonscratchy and function well. They tend to be perfect for both powder but especially cream products and the synthetic bristles make it easier to wash off than natural ones. These brushes from Invogue Brush Works are just that. Good quality synthetic brushes made of Taklon bristles. These are vegan friendly and allergy free.

Invogue Brush Works Eye Duo Brush
Invogue Brush Works Eye Duo Brush

Invogue Brush Works Eye Duo Brush. This brush has two flat ends. One is a large-ish eyeshadow brush that's also perfect to apply both powder and cream eyeshadows. I have a strong suspicion this might be a good one to apply undereye concealer with. Compared to the Real Techniques base shadow brush, it is wider, less packed with firmer bristles. The other end of this brush is an angled brush perfect for eyeliner or eyebrow powder application. The bristles are reasonably stiff enabling good control of product placement.

The only thing I don't like about these dual ended brushes are they are that - dual ended. I find this tricky to store. I can't shove it in a brush holder like the rest of my brushes, rather this needs lying on its side to preserve both brush ends. No biggie though, I can live with that.

Invogue Brush Works Powder Brush Review
Invogue Brush Works Powder Brush

Invogue Brush Works Powder Brush. This brush has super duper soft duo-fibre bristles. I can't stop brushing it on my arm. It is excellent for a light application of powder.

Compared to the Real Techniques Large Powder Brush, this brush is smaller and the bristles are less packed and less firm. I feel its too large for blush and highlighter, but definitely a good size for all over powder and bronzer application. Love it.

I recommend both of these brushes as a cheaper alternative to the synthetic Real Techniques Brushes. Available from Amazon & Falseeyelashes.co.uk.

MAC Hot Chocolate Lipstick Review Swatches
MAC Hot Chocolate Lipstick Review
Still a MAC addict after all these years, I persistently gravitate towards beautiful limited edition packaging. This new lipstick I've picked up is from the recent MAC Vibe Tribe collection. A lipstick called Hot Chocolate - how could I not resist?

MAC Hot Chocolate Lipstick Review Swatches
MAC Hot Chocolate Lipstick Review
MAC Hot Chocolate Lipstick is not as hot chocolatey as I anticipated. It is a muted plum. I expected it to be a bit more brown than plum but nonetheless its such a unique shade, one that I don't have in my collection. It has a gorgeous creamy finish that sits well on the lips. Compared to other darker lippies, this one can be applied straight from the bullet rather than requiring a matching lip pencil. Ain't that handy?

The colour makes me think of summertimes in oversized sunnies and a black maxi dress. Perhaps this is also one that I can wear in the transition to autumn. I wouldn't say its particularly flattering on the teeth, but its not something a good bleaching kit can't fix.

It's unfortunate how MAC has garnered controversy and bad publicity regarding cultural appropriation in this collection. If MAC gave credit where it was due, this mess wouldn't have happened. But I suspect they might have expected this controversy however, I mean as a massive company, they should have seen this coming.

Did you pick up anything from this collection?

Do you match your nails with the weather? I do, sometimes. And Essie Cocktail Bling Nail Polish nails it as the gloomy-weather nail polish.

Cocktail Bling is a dusty greyed blue. It's not bright or glaring like other shades. Its a pleasing understated hue.

This nail polish has the modern Essie large brush that makes application easy along with its great formula. It doesn't require much patience to get application right. This works well with my favourite bases and top coats ie. Nail Tek Foundation and Seche Vite Top Coat, respectively. I bust out this shade when the weather is blue to match the grey London skies. It is one of my favourites.

NYX Matte Lip Cream Haul Review Swatches
NYX Matte Lip Cream Haul
Whilst enjoying my pseudo-summer stroll in Central London, I automatically gravitated towards the big Boots shop in Piccadilly Circus. The ground floor often looks dull despite the higher end brands but venture one floor up and you see a whole farm of people. Like sheep, teenagers flocked around a particular stand, and on closer inspection, it was the huge double-sided NYX display. Needless to say, I squeezed my way through the Spanish tour kids and snapped up a few lip creams to add to my collection. Let's get to it!

NYX Cannes Matte Lip Cream Review Swatches

NYX Prague Matte Lip Cream is a gorgeous dark fuchsia berry. It's a lil vampy, a nice change from kiddy hot pinks. This shade is quite forgiving on chapped lips. Another favourite!

NYX Manila Matte Lip Cream Review Swatches
NYX Manila Matte Lip Cream Review Swatches
NYX Manila Matte Lip Cream. My country's namesake lippy. It is a beautiful neon coral pink.. It firstly applies a little streaky but leave on the lips for a couple of minutes and you can smoosh your lips together to blend it out. It makes flaky skin obvious so your lips need to be in good condition to pull this off perfectly.
