MAC Superb and Whisper of Gilt Extra Dimension Skinfinishes
(the former has been swatched hence it doesn't look as neat as the latter!)

MAC Whisper of Gilt and Superb Extra Dimension Skinfinishes have been repromoted in this year's
MAC Christmas collection - Glamour Daze.
They are powder highlighters that are so soft and pigmented,
on the skin, they are reflective and luminous,
perfect for highlighting the face.
They are long-wearing and
last up to about 8 hours on my face before I need re-touching.
I bought Superb from the first collection it was launched.
I initially reviewed it here
On my skin, it appears like a pinky-toned silver.
With the flash, I don't think this is particularly flattering for my complexion,
as it looks quite peachy and unnatural as a highlight colour.
Whisper of Gilt is a soft peachy nude that leans golden on my skin.
Because of my yellow/olive undertones,
I find this to be more natural-looking and suitable highlighter for my skin.
And this one I definitely recommend!

MAC Whisper of Gilt, Superb Extra Dimension Skinfinish Review, Swatches

I LOVE big hair.
Being oriental with normally sleek straight hair,
big fluffy hair is something I've always craved for.
I've decided to give my hair a break from perming,
so I'm keeping it straight for now,
but to give my hair a bit more volume,
I've been resorting to volumising hair products
and hair sprays.
I have used this ghd Style Root Lift Spray a few times,
and I must say I quite like it.
It does give some volume,
which lasts a couple of hours on my heavy
and normally very straight hair.
After towel-drying hair,
I flip my head down
and spritz my hair with this product,
concentrating the initial spray on the roots
then I massage through my hair
and blow-dry my hair upside down.
That way I get the most volume.
My only criticism is that
it seems to leave my scalp 'feeling' (but not looking) dirty.
And I noticed that after a single use of it,
I developed a few spots on my scalp and along my hair line.
My advise is that if you are particularly acne-prone
you should be careful with this product.
Otherwise, if you are one of those lucky folk
who do not have problems with acne
then this product is one to try for volumising hair!

Available at £12.95 for 100ml from the ghd website.

For Big Hair, Try the ghd Style Root Lift Spray!

I suffer from dry eyes and I have to use eye drops daily:
ie when I wake up in the morning, and at the end of a long working day.
The cold season with the heating on doesn't help either,
and neither does my daily exposure to computer screens.

I was so ecstatic to find out about this new eye mist in the market
that claims to provide instant relief for dry eyes
without ruining eye makeup!

for Tired and Uncomfortable Eyes.

This wonder spray has been specially formulated for the instant relief of tired eyes
to give a refreshing boost so that your eyes
feel more comfortable, revitalised and look their best.

The mist contains liposome particles which work to repair
and replenish the eye’s natural moisture barrier,
relieving tired eyes for up to four hours
while the Pro Vitamin B5 within the new formula helps to
moisturise the eyelids and surrounding delicate skin.

Unlike eye drops, ActiMist™ can be sprayed onto closed eyelids,
which is quite peculiar.
1-2 sprays at a time usually does the trick.
I find that it causes a very faint warming sensation
which somehow helps revitalise the eyes.

The solution itself is more sticky compared to the usual eye drops,
and is a translucent white in colour,
but it applies clear and within 5 minutes,
it leaves your skin with a smooth finish.

Compared to using the standard eye drops,
I do not find this to be as good in terms of hydrating dry eyes
however, it is perfect for those wearing eye makeup.

It can be applied over the top of make-up,
and as long as you don't rub your eyes with the product on
it will not smudge.
I find that it does wet mascara however,
but it does not cause it to run.

It is claims to be safe for contact lens wearers
so it’s the perfect eye ‘pick-me-up’ for makeup lovers!

Apparently Terry Barber, MAC's director of artistry, loves it too!

Available at £15.99 each from your local Boots and Superdrug.

The Solution for Dry Eyes with Eye Makeup - Optrex ActiMist 2 in 1 Eye Spray Review

MAC The Perfect Cheek blush is one of two blushes released in the
MAC Marilyn Monroe Collection.
MAC describes this as a neutral pink beige
in a matte formula.

MAC Marilyn Monroe Blush in The Perfect Cheek Review, Swatches

MAC Legendary blush is one of two blushes released in the
MAC Marilyn Monroe Collection.
MAC describes this as a pale soft coral
in a satin formula.
On my NC30 skin, it is definitely a pale coral
with very faint shimmers.
It is quite sheer,
although a single swipe will yield product.
In terms of the colour
I feel that because its so pale
it might look chalky on skins deeper than NC30-40,
which is a shame really
just a little bit darker
would make it wearable for most skin tones.
Although, that said, the paler/sheer cheek colours
would look good with the dark lipsticks
in this collection.
On my NC25-30 skin,
it gives me a pretty flush.
Similar to that of MAC Launch Away Blush
which is another pale blush
released in the Hey Sailor summer collection this year.
And I've been using this pretty much every day!

MAC Marilyn Monroe Blush in Legendary Review, Swatches

Hello everyone!
I have just received my order for the MAC Marilyn Monroe Collection
and I am currently working on the individual reviews.
I am so excited to share them with you.
Here are some preliminary photos and swatches.

MAC Marilyn Monroe Collection Haul, Swatches

In early May 2012,
Lolita Lempicka launched a new fragrance named
Lolita Lempicka L'Eau en Blanc
or “water in white”.

"The fragrance is dreamy and romantic,
inspired by the scent of white violets,
which is interpreted in the signature Lolita Lempicka gourmand style.

The top notes include powdery iris and violet leaves.
Violet flower in the heart is enriched with sweet aromas of
cherry, raspberry and licorice,
while the base is woody and oriental due to accords of
vetiver, tonka bean, heliotrope and musk."

It is definitely a floral gourmand type of scent,
with a soapy/powdery finish.
Slightly sweet, slightly woody, slight musk
but I can barely smell the cherry and raspberry it claims.

Personally, I don't mind this perfume,
it's just not something I would fall for.
It is pleasant one though, and safe for work.
It is not something I would wear on an evening date or out partying.
But rather, it makes me think of pleasant picnics in the park.

It typically lasts 3-6 hours on my skin,
with mild to moderate sillage.

The fragrance is available in 30, 50 and 80 ml.

Have you tried this fragrance?

Lolita Lempicka L'Eau en Blanc Review

I am slowly getting into perfumes, and while perusing my local House of Fraser, I smelled a whiff of this walking past the perfumerie and was immediately drawn to the Lancome counter. When I asked the lovely lady attending, it was the new Lancome fragrance -- La Vie Est Belle perfume.

Housed in a gorgeous glass bottle, this scent is as sweet as it looks.

My first thoughts were 'it smells just like candy floss!' with a hint of vanilla and praline. It is so very slightly powdery, which I find keeps the sweetness from being overpowering. I wanted some time to decide on what perfumes I buy, so the lovely lady gave me a sample to take home.

"La Vie Est Belle is a new Lancome fragrance, available on the market from fall 2012. The concept of this fragrance is centered on the idea of natural and simple beauty, freedom from conventions and the choice of once own vision of happiness.

The fragrance is a kind of outlook on life, inspired by joy and pleasure in small things. This gourmand yet elegant composition is developed by perfumers Olivier Polge, Dominique Ropion and Anne Flipo.

The final formula is the result achieved after three years of probation and 5000 versions. Iris is the key ingredient of the perfume, surrounded by orange blossoms and jasmine in the heart.

The composition’s opening provides fruity flavors of black currant and pear, while the base is warm, gourmand and powdery due to almond-like accords of tonka bean, praline, patchouli and vanilla.

The flacon is a redesigned version of the classic Lancome bottle from 1949. Actress Julia Roberts is the face of the campaign, shot by director Tarsem Singh." -

I've tried it a few times and I've got to say, the scent does linger on for a long time around 7-12 hours.

The only downside is that because of how sweet this smells it sure does not help an empty stomach!

Lancome La Vie Est Belle Eau De Parfum is priced at £39/56/70 for 30/50/70ml respectively. It is available from your local department store (House of Fraser, Selfridges, Debenhams, John Lewis) or the Lancome website.

PS. I would suggest checking out this perfume (and any scents for that matter) in person before buying it as we all tend to have differences in tastes, and what works for me may not work for you. (although I do adore this perfume!!)

Japonesque Safari Chic Brush Set

Wildly chic, create a perfectly luminous complexion
with Japonesque Safari Chic Bronzer Brush.

Exclusively designed with unique, animal print bristles,
this is an extra-soft, dome-shaped brush,
much like the MAC kabuki brushes,
with its short stubby and high bristle density features.

With regards to the animal print design,
I think it would have been better
if there were several orange spots
opposed to one giant spot,
but it really doesn't bother me at all.

I have been using this to apply powder foundation and powder blushes.

But it can also be used to apply bronzers, luminizers and shimmer powders.

It delivers exceptional results – every time.

I love it!

Made with synthetic fibres, the Safari collection is animal-friendly.
Priced at £19.50, this amazing brush is available from

I just love curling my lashes.
If there was only one thing I could do to brighten up my look
it would be to curl my lashes.
It instantly makes your eyes look wider
doe-eyed and brighter.
Enter a new favourite beauty tool:
the Japonesque Go Curl Pink Pocket Eyelash curler.

I love it's unique compact efficient design.
It is tiny. Probably half the size of the usual eyelash curlers.
The easel back flips down for the leverage needed to produce a curl.
A spare curling pad is tucked inside at the bottom.
It is made of lightweight plastic, which can feel cheap ish, but it sure does the trick:
The Go Curl Eyelash Curler from Japonesque creates
amazing deep sweeping lashes, and long-lasting curls:
I once tried to curl my lashes (without mascara)
and when I woke up the next morning,
I was so pleasantly surprised that the curl still remained!
The only con I have is that due to its design
it can be quite difficult to see which lashes you pinch
as part of the design can obstruct your view.
But I've found the results to be quite amazing
so its still worth it!

Join breast cancer awareness month with this amazing little pink gem,
which should be added to my list of favourite curlers in my post: my lash curling history.

Find your pink pocket curler at
priced at an amazing affordable price: £10.
For every item purchased,
$1 will be donated to Breast Cancer Awareness Research.
I definitely recommend it!

I have realised that my sedentary lifestyle needed to come to an end
and therefore, I've started exercising again.
However, the increased activity results in a lot of muscle aches,
and this cream is a lifesaver!
This product is called the Deep Heat Muscle Rescue Neck and Shoulder Cream.
It smells of rosemary and vanilla.

It has a large sponge tip applicator, which allows for specific areas to be targetted
and rubbed without getting your hands dirty.

After a couple of minutes,
you start to feel a heating sensation that helps distract yourself from the aches.
I've noticed that the sensation lasts for about half an hour,
after which I either have to reapply,
or more frequently,
actually forget about the pain!

Be sure not to apply too liberally though if you're not used to it
in case the heat might feel too intense, especially for the first time.

The formula is good in that it does not appear to irritate my skin.

This product is also perfect for everyday for the active types and bad back sufferers.
A lots of us suffer from tense, aching muscles from time to time,
whether it's caused by over-energetic gardening,
being hunched up at a computer without enough breaks,
or the general stress that builds up in everyday life.

I definitely recommend it!

Available at £5.99 from your local pharmacies and grocery outlets.

Deep Heat Muscle Rescue Cream

I love love love the Maybelline Colour Tattoo eyeshadow range.
They are just so creamy to apply and stay put for at least 8 hours on my oily lids - yes they are that good.
When I came across blog reviews on the new Limited Edition shades launched in the US,
I squealed and searched the UK online shops.
But as expected, the UK is a bit behind
(we don't even have the full regular line up our lucky US counterparts have)
so I turned to e-bay for my beauty lemmings.
This limited edition fall collection is composed of earthy tones,
which are so wearable for both day and night.
I picked up the following shades:
Mossy Green
Rich Mahogany
Gold Shimmer
Mossy Green is an olive-forest green colour with fine gold shimmers.
Rich Mahogany is a dark brown with fine red shimmers.
Gold Shimmer is a true gold with fine golden shimmers.
While these are all well-pigmented, I found that they can apply quite patchy (especially Mossy Green).
However, that doesn't really bother me as
you can layer them to achieve an even coverage.
 Mahogany, Gold Shimmer, Mossy Green

Mahogany, Gold Shimmer, Mossy Green
I am loving these new shades; they are so perfect for fall
and I just wish they would be available in the UK!
